I will often write a poem or a series of poems to accompany a body of work. In 1998, I self published the limited edition book, Hallucinations from the Cage, a collection of poetry and artist notes. Seeded Dreams (below) was written for a recently completed body of art.
Both Hallunciations from the Cage and a catalog of my work, including monotypes and paintings not shown on this site are available by contacting me at 505.343.8770.
Seeded Dreams
Somewhere between twilight
and the dawn seeds are planted.
New days begin and remnants
of the darkness bleed through
into the daylight, where inspite
of purpose and desire, myriad
dreams over the lifetime
never germinate.
By what rules is their fate determined?
Nature or a nurturing script, written
by the host or the seed itself?
If the seed's purpose is etched
on the surface of the unconcious,
is it nurtured and cultivated in the darkness
and then harvested by the light of day?
If, by the light of day, it cannot be recalled,
does it continue to exist?
Some say we hold the answers.
If that is true, why would we not nourish
our dream garden and shepherd the order
of nature to increase the sum or quality of the
harvested seeds to a predetermined yield?
